Some definitions:

Freeware - is completely free to use. May or may not be ad supported. Generally it's cool to pass this stuff around.

Shareware, trialware - Free to use, share, pass around. Generally comes with some incentive to upgrade, such as reminder pop-ups, deactivation after 30 days, the program is incomplete, or variations on the theme of We'd like you to upgrade, please.

HeroinWare - really addictive software, such as the first Doom game. That one was shareware and made ID rich.

CommercialWare - Shrinkwrapped software, not free to pass around (legally.) If you're determined to get free commercialware then you might want to talk with your local FBI office.
